So the gorgeous Recording Artist who sings like the Rock & Soul Gods had a hand in creating her is officially stepping back out on the scene. That Artist is Alice Smith, and I am beyond delighted to see this teaser of her glamming it up to one of her latest tracks “Cabaret.” She sang this a few months Back at the Highline Ballroom in NYC, I’m going to gather up that footage to share with you all.
It’s no secret that I’m infatuated with Brazil. The culture, the people, the language…I love it all long time.
With that said, I watched the Waste Land‘ trailer, and the plight of this particular group warmed my Soul & peaked my interest. Looking forward to watching the film. Life truly inspires Art & Humanity.
DJ Mehdi, Paris-based DJ who rocked crowds around the world with his Electro-Funk style on the 1s and 2s, unfortunately transitioned from this Life this past weekend. The beauty in being in artist is that your work assures that your Spirit lives on, and we can relive the good times.
Needless to say, his latest mix, an ode to his motherland of Tunisia and a “hot Summer” that he spent DJing parties from NYC to Tokyo has Surely left us with a Full Bodied Toast to the Talent and Life of DJ Mehdi. Cheers to the good times, and Rhythm Junkie sends our condolences and positive vibes to his wife, Fafi (World-renowned Graff/Visual artist) and his family & friends.
Download DJ Mehdi’s mixtape Tunisian Summer Mix, and take a moment to soak in the talent that made party-rockers fall in love with another Artist gone too soon!
I still haven’t finished my Amy Winehouse post (it’s got to be RIGHT), but this video right here makes my eyes water every time.
This is 1 of my fave tracks off of her last album “Back to Black.” A track i used to frequent on rainy nights contemplating love (mush moment OVER). Enjoy! Amy is missed! So much potential, but she left us with some gems that are timeless!
Hip Hop is a major part of the foundation at Rhythm Junkie.
With that said, seeing this video made me feel all warm and gleeful inside; seeing “Aunt Tracey,“ (the moniker dubbed by Baratunde, owner of the video) pop-locking and breakin’ truly shows the depth & energy that the core of Hip Hop has as a culture. Watching her get in the zone, I could just visualize her doing her thing back in the day in NYC. It’s all about the Good Times as we get through day by day in this life. Enjoy!
To all my NYers and those who want to be here, Check out MyBlockNYC, a cool site allowing users to ‘rep their block’ by uploading video of the happenings in their neighborhood.
Someone who gives a show, excites me, has me anticipating what they are going to do next. Chris Brown is one of those Artist’s who always keeps my undivided attention when he steps on the stage and starts that foot work, and he has done so again at the VMA’s that aired this past Sunday. No one was expecting that intro giving a nod to the 90s music, leading into that trance-inducing, feel-good track “Beautiful People,” and then him leaping and soaring over heads! DOPENESS!
On Wednesday night, Lianne La havas (popularly know for her Black Cab Sessions performance that we mentioned here), performed here in NYC in a nice intimate setting at the Living Room, where she sent the crowd into rhythmic Bliss with her stellar vocals (Will release some snippets from the performance later this week!).
Rhythm Junkie chatted with her about what’s next, as she was excited and anxious to perform, coming from a marathon of songwriting. She mentioned that she felt so inspired artistically by NYC, and that the whole experience has really opened doors for the Songstress on the rise.
We hear that she may have made that shift from ‘Indie’ to ‘Signed artist,’ but we’ll wait for confirmation and details *wink*. Either way, between her lyrcis that speak to raw emotions expressed unique to Havas’ style, Her quirky yet mature & stellar vocals, and her eye opening stage presence, there is no doubt that you will be hearing her name on the regular in Music Land.
Here is a photo of her new guitar (photo courtesy of her manager) that she mentioned she was “consummating with” during her performance Wednesday Night (in an artistic manner, of course). She’s a delight to watch, and indeed an artist to be reckoned with.
You know how it FEELS when you are going through a very specific situation… and then you click play and someone is singing your exact situation like they overheard your thoughts?!?!? Yeah, that happened when I stumbled upon U.K. crooner, Lianne La Havas singing for The Black Cab Sessions.
I’m Strung out by the way she finesses that guitar and how her voice dances along with the music. Saw this video of her, and everyone in my Twitter timeline started RTing her infectious performance. Check out the UK import.

When I first saw Tyler the Creator’s “Yonkers” video, I was instantly hooked.
Dark lyrics, hard and dark hip hop beat and dark, awesome video. I started researching the California based rapper and I was surprised when I found out not only does he have an album and plenty of mixtapes out, but he was only 18 at the time.
Tyler delivers genius lyrics and he also produces for himself and his wild
crew, OFWGKTA (Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All). I can honestly say that Odd Future is definitely 1 of my favorite modern day Hip Hop
groups. With all the BS that is being labeled as “Hip Hop” lately, it’s great to see a group of kids doing something different, being
themselves and making quality music.
